Earl

“This has been the most magnificent gift I have ever received. You’ve have been an absolute miracle for me.”

Earl’s journey with Travelers Aid Society began in 2022, when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer while living on an extremely limited income in Chula Vista. A social worker connected him to our services, and through SANDAG funded programs, Travelers Aid provided 66 rides to and from his radiation and chemotherapy appointments. After being declared cancer-free, Earl continued to face additional health challenges, and we were able to provide dozens more trips to ensure he could attend critical follow up care and medical appointments without interruption.

Determined to regain his independence, Earl worked with an Orientation and Mobility specialist and began learning how to navigate public transit on his own. Today, with the support of a bus pass through our SenioRide program, he confidently uses the bus and trolley to stay connected to his healthcare, housing, and community. Earl’s story reflects how transportation is more than just a ride. It is a lifeline that supports health, independence, and dignity for older adults facing serious medical and financial challenges.
